The industry giants that are Uwell, have truly shown their hand in competing with the likes of disposable vapes throughout the last year. Towards the end of summer last year, Uwell released their Caliburn A2 Pod Kit. It gained popularity after an influx of people found an easy solution to quitting smoking, through the use disposables. The A2 is the start of Uwell’s solution to hassle free vaping through a compact, ergonomic design. Uwell have also since released their newer, updated version of the A2 – Uwell Caliburn G2 Pod Kit and you can read our review of the G2 here.
The Caliburn A2 is almost identical in size to its predecessor, the original Caliburn G. The measurements come in at 110.1 mm x 21.3 mm x 11.7mm; weighing in at a light 31 grams, or 33 with a full pod of E-liquid. Uwell boast a collection of pocket friendly pod kits, and the A2 is no exception to this rule. A matte finish to the design gives the A2 a really nice feel, and helps combat those fingerprint marks you can find sometimes on a stainless steel finished kit.
The A2 is available in six different colours, each as flawless as the last.
Black
Blue
Green
Grey
Iris Purple
Orange
Aside from the colours, the device has some modern upgrades. Immediately you notice the E-liquid viewing panel, a nice addition to the overall appearance of the kit. Secondly, an all new Type-C charging port has been added. This allows for faster, more efficient charging. A 520mAh battery provides the A2 with just about enough force for a full day of vaping; firing at around 15watts. This provides perfect balance between smooth throat hit, and vapour production.
What’s the build quality like of the Caliburn A2?
To put it simply, it’s pretty impressive. Ergonomic design, sleek feel and easy vaping. The A2 can either be used with a button operated fire, or the in-built auto-draw technology. This is one of the reasons I rave about Uwell in general, they include these little features that go so far in providing an easy, smooth vaping experience.
The Caliburn A2 comes with 2 Meshed 0.9ohm coils pre installed into the pods. With the A2, the only option for pods is at 0.9ohms. We’ve tested the pods with both Nicotine Salts, and regular e-liquid and they handle extremely well. I’ll dive more in to the coils and flavour later on!
At this point, I only have two suggestions. The e-liquid viewing panel is only from one side, so if you’re in a low light room it can be difficult to see how full/empty your pod actually is. Secondly, you’ll find the air flow hole on the left side of the kit; and sometimes when vaping i’ve found myself slightly covering it without noticing. Now, I asked around the office and it seems to be just me that’s had this; so maybe don’t take any notice of the waffle i’ve just spewed out, but I thought it was worth noting.
The A2 has a slightly wider mouthpiece, which makes puffing away feel slightly more comfortable and natural. To refill the pods, you have to pop off the mouthpiece and then place the nozzle of your E-liquid bottle in the hole with the red silicone stopper.
The only thing that really confuses me, is that Uwell have decided not to include the type-c charging cable within the box of the A2. For some, this isn’t an issue. But the Type-C charging port is still relatively new, and not every household will have one of these in. For the sake of the extra £0.50 they could whack one in for, i’m not sure why they didn’t.
Let’s talk Pods and Coils
If we continue on build quality, we naturally start a conversation around coil lifespan. Uwell’s technology is arguably some of the best in the industry and because of this the Caliburn family has had a quick sprint to the most popular kits outside of Disposables; Uwell calls this their Pro-Focs technology. Fancy name, we know. We couldn’t care what they call it, it works and works seriously well at that. Not only do the coils produce probably the best flavour out of any manufacturer right now (very bold claim I know), but the lifespan on these bad boys is awesome. With pretty heavy vaping, I tested this for just over a month, my first pod lasted for nearly 3 weeks (19 days to be precise). While vaping at 20mg Nic Salts, this is pretty impressive. Throughout that time I very rarely had any kind of leaking from the pod itself (although to combat a leaky pod, I always just 3/4 fill the tank or pod that I am using at the time). In terms of flavour throughout its life span, I only really noticed a drop right at the end. Sure, nothing beats a fresh coil/pod, however it held up pretty well during the period of testing.
Battery Life of the Caliburn A2
The A2 comes equipped with a 520mAh battery, which considering the size and wattage output of the kit; is more than enough. At a full charge this will easily do a whole day of vaping, and because of the new Type-C charging port, will fully charge in 52 minutes, with it reaching around 90% battery life at 35 minutes.
The LED light on the front of the A2 indicates as to what battery life the vape kit is currently on.
A Green light means the battery is between 60% and 100%
A Blue Light indicates there is 30%-60% battery life remaining
And finally a red light means its time to look for a charger, less than 30% of battery
It seems to go through around 4ml of E-liquid before needing a charge, which is pretty standard for a small pod kit.
Uwell Caliburn A2 Pod Kit: Summary
This vape kit is nothing new, no wild new technology, no fancy add ons or humungous clouds. Uwell keep it simple, and that’s what we love. The A2 is a perfect recommendation for anyone trying to kit smoking; no hassle with changing coils, easy refills and awesome flavour production.
