You may have heard the news on Monday that disposables vapes will at some point be banned as part of the governments plan to tackle the rising number of young people taking up vaping. While this news has been floating around the vape industry for quite some time, we weren’t really surprised when it was officially announced. The government have thankfully advised that there will be a buffer period of at least 6 months once the legislation is passed to allow businesses to adapt, so no need to panic buy!
But it’s not all sad news… while you’ve been sleeping soundly with your blue razz elf bar tucked under your pillow (if you do this please stop, you looney!), the vape industry has been innovating and creating amazing disposable alternatives. If you love a Crystal bar, lost Mary, or even a Voom pod, we’ve got some perfect alternatives for you below. We do have a full blog post about this here too.
Best Disposable Alternatives
SKE Crystal Disposable Alternative
This one is impressive, it’s an SKE pod kit, produced by the same people who make the disposable, and it looks and vapes identically! We even did a review of the kit here if you wanted to check it out.
Basically if an SKE Crystal is your vape of choice the only thing the disposable ban means for you, is that you’ll be saving money in the long run by switching to a pod kit. Not too bad eh?
You can find the SKE Crystal Kit here and the prefilled replacement pods here. They also recently just released empty pods, so you can vape any liquid of your choosing too, what an all rounder!
Elf Bar Disposable Alternative
You’ve got a few options here elf bar lovers, you can go for the Elfa Kit, the Elfa Pro, or the Elf bar mate 500. We love the original Elfa kit and would recommend this one if you aren’t sure what to go for.
The Elfa and Elfa pro’s are essentially carbon copies of the elf bar, but if you don’t mind a change of scenery, the Elf bar mate kit is a slightly different shape and also has compatible empty pods just like the SKE, so the choice of liquid is yours!
You can find the Elfa kit here and the compatible pods here.

Lost Mary BM600 Disposable Alternative
Meet the Lost Mary BM600’s fun aunty, the Lost Mary Tappo. This kit looks REALLY cool; it’s sleek, small and very visually appealing, and of course also tastes incredible.
The only issue with this kit in our opinion, is that they don’t offer a pineapple ice prefilled pod! They clearly don’t understand how ride or die the pineapple ice BM600 fans are, but they have time to introduce one so let’s not panic about it just yet.
You can buy the Lost Mary Tappo here, and the prefilled pods here.
Voom Pod Disposable Alternative
We’re throwing in a bit of a wildcard here; many of you might not have heard of the Voom Iris Mini Disposable, but we have and it’s our blog post so there. (We reviewed the disposable here if you’re curious)
The Voom Pod Mod is the alternative for this kit, and it’s an underrated pod kit at that. It’s design is similar to the Lost Mary Tappo and it has a really solid flavour range in the compatible pre filled pods. We really liked it, and reckon it’s up there with the disposable titans.

FAQ’s
We understand that some of you haven’t come here to be preached at about the best disposable alternatives, and that’s fair enough. Here’s what you really want to know:
When Are Disposable Vapes Going To Be Banned?
The simple answer is, no one knows yet! Some sources say the end of 2024/start of 2025, however the actual legislation legally banning vapes hasn’t been put into place yet, with the government advising this will happen ‘as soon as possible’. Even then, you still have the 6 month buffer period to legally continue to purchase your vapes. Once this legislation is put into place, the government will have to give an exact date as to when they can be legally sold, to prevent any sales from happening after they’re banned. So what this means for you as a consumer, is that you’ll be well aware in advance of the date the ban will start.
If Disposable Vapes Are Banned, Won’t Everyone Just Go Back To Cigarettes?
Thankfully, there are many smoking alternatives on the market today, not just re useable vapes, but patches, gum, nic pouches etc. We think that the majority of people using disposable vapes at the moment will be able to find suitable and often better options to help quit smoking. So to answer the above question, we don’t think so! Cigarettes are expensive too, and the price is only going up.
Why Are Disposable Vapes Being Banned?
An NHS report released back in 2022 found that 22% of children in England between the ages of 11-15 had used a disposable vape that year. A Scottish study in 2022 found that children aged 11-16 viewed disposables vapes as a modern lifestyle accessory, and reusable vapes as more of an adult product. No child still in primary school should be vaping and become addicted to nicotine, and disposable vapes have unfortunately become more of a status symbol for young children rather than an 18+ tool for quitting smoking. This is partly due to lax age verification; we all know of a corner shop near us that doesn’t ID for tobacco, vapes or alcohol, and this is one of the reasons disposables are landing in the hands of our children. The few have unfortunately ruined it for those of us operating lawfully.
To help mitigate this risk while disposables are still being sold, make sure you purchase your vapes from reputable sources with strict age verification. No more going to the dodgy shops that sell 3500 puff Elux’s.
Summary
Overall, we believe this ban is a positive, and a move in the right direction for the vaping industry as a whole. There are plenty of stop smoking alternatives available and to be honest, we won’t miss the disposables one bit.
