I’m Braedon (strange name I know, but bear with), and I proudly work for Vape.co.uk as a website developer and as a marketing assistant. I’m proud to be helping this company grow in anyway I can to help more and more people quit smoking and get great deals on vape products in the process.
I always find other people’s short stories on how they first got into vaping interesting, and I hope that you find mine interesting too:
My adventure with vaping began back in 2014 – just over 5 years ago now! I had been smoking around 20 rolled cigarettes a day from 16 to 23 years of age.
It all began when I started a new office job in Digital Advertising. This company wasn’t particularly generous with cigarette breaks (as in they weren’t allowed, ever), but I soon noticed that it was permissible to use the small vape pens that had just come onto the market. At the time, I knew nothing about them – I’d seen the ones that looked like cigarettes, assumed they’d be terrible, and went about my smoking life.
A colleague of mine, in his 50s, said he tried one – his direct manager had one – and he said it was 90% the same as smoking a cigarette. I tried a hit, and while I coughed, I liked the flavour, I liked the hit and I liked the fact that I could use it indoors.
One of the main reasons it was becoming rife relatively quickly within the office is because there was a vape shop called “Mirage” pretty much bang next door – one door down from the pub (which of course was the office local).
My first purchase
I went in there one day and bought a kit for about £30 – this included a pen-looking device with a small tank and a couple of juices – one blueberry 24mg and one tobacco flavour 36mg – to give me the full cigarette hit! You can’t get beyond 20mg now, but having that in a modern-day tank would honestly blow my head off anyway!
So, with kit in tow, I decided that I would vape indoors at work, and smoke outside – simples.
I had no intention of quitting smoking, and I didn’t see this as a step towards quitting at all, I would just do both so that I could get my nicotine hit at work, and vape a load of wispy smoke around the office for the fun of it – both to pretend I was some wolf of wall street hotshot from the 70s, smoking as I orchestrated lead generation deals, and maybe for the fact I could chuckle with my colleagues (the ones who didn’t mind) about the absurdity of me being allowed to do this at work in the first place.
What happened next
However, I soon found myself smoking cigarettes less and less, and vaping much, much more. It was only after a week or two that I could see the difference in front of my eyes without consciously thinking about it; I was rolling less cigarettes, flicking less lighters, and dropping less filter tips out of my pocket. Subsequently, I was squeezing more bottles and pushing more buttons!
Eventually, even my new rule of “I’ll only smoke when I drink rule” began to crumble ash, literally. I started taking my mod with me on nights out and never looked back. Actually, I suppose I did, but only because I was worried about losing my mod whilst drunk, whereas I didn’t mind the thought of losing half a pouch of tobacco as much. However, my new-found love of vaping overrode this worry, and I don’t think I ever lost a mod (drunk or not
This is what I started with:
This was the level up that I soon purchased afterwards:
Below are is the whole kit, although mine didn’t come with spares. As you can see, the “tanks” are tiny in size, but would last for an acceptable amount of time due to the minimal puffs you could get from these babies. You can also see the glasses case-type bag that came with it + the little charger to charge the battery:
When put together, this is what the “pen mods” looked like (with the lid protectors still on):
This was the crème de la crème when I first discovered the world of vaping:
I could never have afforded one of these bad boys on my apprenticeship wage! ^^
What vaping did for me
Honestly, the health benefits of giving up smoking have been superb.
After a couple of months of vaping, I soon discovered that – when playing five-a-side football – that I could run for much longer, and when I did get tired, it didn’t come with a burning sensation of self-combustion in my lungs. I soon noticed that my taste got better, my clothes, hands and breath began to stop smelling of cigarette smoke, and I just generally felt fresher and fitter.
It also started saving me a lot of money (although I became a leeeeeeeeeeetle bit obsessed with blueberry flavours for a while).
It was also nice to not constantly be finding loose tobacco in my pockets, as well as noticing less holes in my jacket pockets from sharp lighter flints. It was also far more convenient – no need to roll a ciggie, just fire a button instead!
Vaping has radically changed my life. I’d always considered the gym at different points in my life, but smoking always made me feel too unfit for the gym. Once I’d stopped smoking for a considerable amount of time, I started to think about fitness a little more.
Finally, I managed to get into a routine. I’ve now been going to the gym for the last 3 and a half years! (First year was more dossing around, now it’s more “bro science”).
Now, in the year 2019, it’s so easy and affordable, particularly compared to how it was 5 years ago, to get the right high-quality mods and juices. If you’re new to vaping, explore our Just Browsing range to take a look at some of our products.
Well, that’s me for now. I hope you enjoyed reading. If you have your own first time-vaping stories, please get in touch! We’d love to hear how vaping was love at first exhale, or if it took time to accustom to this new way of life.
