If you’re reading this you likely fit into one of two groups:
You have never vaped, and have no idea what you’re doing.
You’ve vaped before, maybe years ago but never managed to kick the cigarettes.
Well if you don’t fit into one of those, this might be helpful anyway. If you do, great – let’s get things started.
I’ve never vaped before, where do I start?!
So you’re completely new to vaping, and you want to know amongst all this jargon, and rubbish, what do you actually need to quit smoking with vaping?
To quit smoking effectively with vaping you usually need just two things:
Vape kit
E-Liquid
Vape Kit
“What kit is best for a beginner?” is a question we get asked a LOT, and the truth is, there isn’t a one size fits all. First you have to ask yourself what are you looking for in a kit? Is it discreet amounts of vapour? Do you want to best replicate a cigarette? Or do you just want something that requires the least amount of hassle and confusion possible?
As a beginner to vaping, we recommend only using a starter kit. Now these come in various forms; pod kit, mod and tank, and a vape pen style.
All kits have pro’s and cons, but you don’t need to waste time trying to work out what those are, because we’ve done the hard work for you. This isn’t the case for all variants of these kits, but it is a workframe for which you can get a basic understanding of some major pro’s and cons.
We swear by pod kits being the most effective way to quit smoking, because they’re usually simple to use and don’t require a lot of maintenance. Pod kits usually come in two formats, with pre-installed coils and without. Pre-installed coils in vape pods are the most simple to use. This is because when the coil inside the pod burns out, you simply replace the pod.
Pod kits are also a super effective way to quit smoking with vaping, because they allow you to use an e-liquid, that is designed specifically to hit the nicotine craving you may have previously struggled to keep at bay.
That brings us onto the next piece of the confusing vaping puzzle.
What E-Liquid do I need?
Now whilst there isn’t a once size fits all for e-liquid either, we do have some seriously strong recommendations if you’re serious about quitting. Two of the most common problems new vapers have are; they can’t satisfy the nicotine craving effectively, they have no idea what liquid they should be using.
Whilst we could go on all day about VG and PG, and different mg of nicotine, there is really no need at this point.
If you’re a beginner, you should really be using nic-salt e-liquid. But what’s that right? We go into detail in our blog here but if you’re looking for the simple answer;
Nic Salt is a term thats short for Nicotine Salt which is the naturally found nicotine in tobacco leaves. Whilst most people think that nicotine is a seriously harmful chemical, it is actually tobacco that is the reason that cigarettes are so harmful to humans.
What’s the difference between nic-salts and regular e-liquid?
Regular e-liquids use free base nicotine, this basically means that nicotine is simply mixed with a flavour concentrate to create the e-liquid. Nic Salts however use a chemical called benzoic acid that neutralises nicotine and creates a new compound of nicotine which is easier to consume. This means that you can consume a higher concentration of nicotine, without it being too harsh as many vapers find.
Why will nic salts help me quit more effectively?
Nicotine salt e-liquid is designed specifically so you can vape higher levels of nicotine, without it being harsh on your throat. Nic salts work into your blood stream much quicker than regular e-liquid, leaving your more satisfied with your nicotine hit.
To summarise this bit; we recommend nicotine salt e-liquid if you’re a first time vaper, because it’s likely if you use freebase nicotine e-liquid, you’ll go back to smoking, and none of us want that.
We know we said you only need two things, but you might need a third depending on what vape kit you choose.
Coils Explained (simply)
Coils can be confusing for beginners, because they come in so many different resistances. Again, we’ve spoken at length about coils in our blog which can be read here.
If you choose a pod system (or any vape kit) that uses coils that aren’t built into the pod, you’ll need to buy and keep buying replacement coils. You can see these as buying filters, or papers, or a lighter. Once a coil burns out, it needs replacing. Coils or pods should last between 1 and 3 weeks depending on how often you use your vape.
The coils you need will be dependent on the kit you have, so always check the compatibility of the coils you’re using.
We hope that helps, we like to keep things fairly simple here at Vape.co.uk, because we have one mission, to help you quit smoking.
