It’s finally here, the first large puff count disposable device from Elf Bar made specifically for the UK market! We can certainly say that this is a far more convenient and cost effective option for those of us who enjoy Elf bars, but does it live up to the hype? We wanted to know, so we put it through it’s paces and put all of our findings in this nice little blog post just for you.
Elf bar AF5000 Key Features & Specifications
The devices comes with a prefilled 10ml reservoir of 20mg nicotine e-liquid that feeds into the 2ml tank at the top of the kit, making it 5000 puffs as apposed to the typical 2ml 600 puff Elf Bars. Despite being 5000 puffs, the product is actually TPD compliant, which means it’s completely legal to sell within the UK! They manage to comply with these regulations by having a fixed 2ml tank in the device that’s refilled by a 10ml tank that isn’t fixed. Clever eh?
They have a range of classic flavours available, including sour pineapple ice and blueberry sour raspberry, which you vape through a Mesh QUAQ 1.2Ohm coil. The kit is also rechargeable so you don’t have to worry about the battery dying before the liquid runs out.
What is QUAQ technology?
QUAQ coils are a new bit of kit at the cutting edge of vaping. They operate differently to traditional mesh coils, by weaving a thinner mesh that concentrates the heat produced, in order to produce a better and more consistent flavour. The thin mesh lining also means more liquid is absorbed and used by the coil, leaving almost none behind. Mesh coils due to their multi layered weaving mean more surface area is covered, allowing the wick to spend more time in contact with the metal itself, this is how more liquid is consumed.
Specifications:
20mg (2%) Nicotine
5000 Puffs (approx.)
2ml tank with 10ml feeding reservoir
TPD Compliant
Rechargeable
Mesh QUAQ 1.2Ohm coil
What’s in the Elf Bar AF5000 box?
Inside each box is the AF5000 kit with one 10ml bottle lightly secured using a sticker which provides the set up instructions, the AF5000 kit itself, and a small ‘user manual’ leaflet which again explains the assembly, key product information, and relevant safety warnings. Unfortunately the device doesn’t come with a USB C cable included which is required to recharge the device. This feels a cheap move from Elf but most new charging cables are USB-C so it’s likely you have one lying around anyway.
Elf Bar AF5000 Flavours
Blue Razz Lemonade: A classic. One of the most popular Elf Bar flavours there are, and understandably so. Sweet blueberries paired with raspberries, finished off with a lemonade hit on the exhale.
Blueberry Ice: A simple, but superb blueberry flavour. Strong blueberry notes throughout with an ice cold finish.
Blueberry sour raspberry: A mix of Blueberries and tangy raspberry. Another extremely popular flavour!
Tobacco: This ones for you tobacco lovers. Elf put a bit of a spin on this, mixing an original tobacco flavour with a slightly sweetened cream. Provides a smoother, more pleasant vaping experience than a regular tobacco flavour.
Grape: A cooling, classic grape flavour.
Kiwi Passionfruit Guava: 3 tropical fruits all muddles into one flavour. We rated this as one of our favourite flavours ever.
Pineapple Mojito: A refreshing pineapple mint cocktail.
Pink Lemonade: Think the old school Refresher sweets. A nostalgic taste.
Strawberry Ice: Really sweet strawberries blended together and poured over ice. Cooling, refreshing and a perfect all day vape.
Watermelon Ice: A full, flavour bomb with all things watermelon. A great flavour if watermelon is your go to choice.
Strawberry Raspberry Cherry Ice: A delicate balance of fresh red strawberries, ripe raspberries and ice cool cherries.
Cherry Ice: Fresh cherries just picked, a sweet delight, laid to rest on a bed of ice.
Lemon Lime: The classic combination, fruity and tangy.
Sour Pineapple Ice: A slightly fizzy pineapple ice flavour.
Triple Mango: Overloaded with juicy fresh mangoes, this immense fruity flavour will taste like something straight out of a tropical forest.
Elf Bar AF5000 Flavour Test
I don’t mean to sound dramatic, but this is probably the best tasting disposable that I’ve ever tried; the flavour quality and intensity is absolutely insane and a huge improvement on the original Elf bar in my opinion. The flavour doesn’t drop off as the kit looses charge either like a traditional disposable does, and it’s also not too harsh on the throat. 10/10 from me, if i ever went back to disposables as my vape of choice this would be the one I’d go for.
Design, Built Quality and Battery Life
Design
The device is approximately 9cm (height) by 4cm (width) and is very comfortable to hold in the hand; it’s also pocket friendly due to the thickness being the roughly the same as a traditional Elf bar. The style of the kit is really nice, simple, but with a metallic gradient strip across the top of the kit which gives it that little extra bit of pizazz. It’s got a large, flat mouthpiece which is really comfortable to use, and i much prefer this over the mouthpiece on a smaller disposable.
When you’re refilling the kit, the instructions say to hold it upside down and wait until there are no more air bubbles in the tank, but with the pineapple kit, you can’t see into the liquid chamber as it isn’t transparent; i managed to get around this by holding a torch behind the liquid chamber as it was upside down so that i could see the bubbles, but it would be helpful if this was actually clear as the instructions suggest.
It is very straightforward and convenient to refill the kit, just hold upside down for 10 seconds and you’re done! It means you don’t have to get in contact with the liquid at all – gone are the days of trying to refill your kit and getting more liquid on yourself than in the tank. Recharging is easy too, just plug in your USB-C into the port and use the 3 battery indicator lights on the side of the kit to tell you when it’s fully charged. These lights also work to tell you the remaining battery of the AF5000 which is extremely handy.
One thing to mention though, is that the kit doesn’t actually stand up because the base is slightly curved. For those of you who don’t really want the mouthpiece of your vape kit near any surface, this might be quite annoying – but this is a design with a purpose. It’s so that your kit can refill when you’re not using it, which makes sense, but it only takes 10 seconds to refill the tank anyway. I feel like this a bit of a pointless feature that’s more annoying than useful.
Build Quality
The AF5000 is made of plastic, but it does seem really solid and sturdy. I’ve already dropped it a few times too (whoops) but there’s no damage to the outside of the kit and it’s still functioning perfectly.
When you’re assembling the kit the pieces glide together really easily, and once in place, they’re really well connected meaning there’s no risk of your liquid pod falling out.
How To Set Up/Assemble The Elf Bar AF5000
Remove the instruction sticker that’s holding the pod against the kit (you can also find these instructions in the user manual if you need).
Pull the dangly grey silicone stopper out from the kit.
Open your liquid bottle (it’s a child lock/press and turn cap)
Connect the grooves of the liquid bottle and the kit and slide the bottle upwards with the open side facing up and press firmly in place.
Hold the kit upside down for 10 seconds to fill the tank with liquid.
Wait 10/15 minutes for the liquid to soak into the coil and off you go!
What To Do If You’ve Put The Pod In The Wrong Way
If you’ve accidentally forced the pod into a position it wasn’t supposed to be in and now you’re unable to use the kit, you’re going to need some plyers, and brute force. The only way to get the pod back out once inserted incorrectly is by pulling until it comes out. Make sure that if you’re using plyers or similar tools, you’re not gripping the pod in the middle where the plastic is weakest. Try and grab from the bottom, and try not to squeeze the plyers together too much as you’re pulling.
Battery Life
Powered by a 650mAh battery, the battery life is pretty standard, and lasts about the same as a 600 puff disposable. If you vape frequently and find you’re going through 1 disposable a day, you can expect the same from the AF5000 battery. The device fully recharges within half an hour via USB-C cable.
How To Use The Elf Bar AF5000?
Use the step by step instructions provided for the initial assembly, and simply turn the device upside down to refill. The kit is draw activated and doesn’t have any buttons to hold down.
Re-charge as required using a USB-C cable.
How Long Does The Liquid last In The Elf Bar AF5000?
They advertise it as lasting 5000 puffs, but realistically, and as expected, it didn’t last that long. We found it lasted just under a week with intermittent charging.
How To Refill The Elf Bar AF5000?
Tip it upside down and hold it there for 10 seconds. Easy peasy.
Pros and Cons
Pros
Amazing Flavour
Convenient
Quick And Mess Free Refills
TPD Compliant Large Puff Count Device
Cons
Doesn’t Stand Upright
Can’t Purchase Refill Bottles For It
Summary
We’re seriously impressed with this kit, the flavour alone give us reason to believe it’s one of the best disposables on the market at the moment, and it’s great to see a cleverly designed device with 10mls of liquid that’s fully TPD compliant. It would be great if you could stand the kit upright though, maybe those of you with a 3D printer can get creative and make that happen.
