Disposable vape kits have taken the UK Vaping market by storm. Not only because of the superior flavour, but the hassle free style of disposables allows for a no nonsense approach to vaping. Which also provides an easy route for people to quit smoking. The simple designs, alongside being small and lightweight make it a perfect solution to on the go vaping. It also doesn’t matter if you lose one, as you can simply just go and pick up another.
Most disposable vape kits will be ready to vape straight out of the packet, no button activated fire and no need to charge up the device. Disposables come pre filled with a maximum of 2ml of nic salt E-liquid here in the UK. You may have seen some Elux legend 3500 puffs about – please stere clear of these as they are against regulation here in the UK so they will not go through the same formal checks every other disposable has done.
When you purchase a disposable vape kit, once you take it out of the packaging and remove the silicone stoppers you can start vaping straight away. There will in some instances (very few), a case where your disposable isn’t working. The main culprits as to why your disposable isn’t working as it should be are:
Counterfeit product
Battery issues
No E-liquid
Blocked airflow hole
Faulty airflow sensor
The vast majority of disposable vape kits available on the UK Vaping market; such as the Elf Bar or GeekBar, are mass produced in China. We’re talking to a scale of 100,000s at a time. So I think we can all give them some slack when the odd one may carry a fault causing it to not work as it should do. We often forget, vaping is a technology, and like any technology there will always be a small percentage of defected products; we refer to this as a disposables defect rate (%).
For example, Elf bar usually maintain a defect rate of as low as 1-2%. No prizes for guessing why they’re the most popular disposable on the market in the UK as of now. There can be specific reasons as to why your disposable isn’t working as it should be. We have outlined the most common faults with disposable vapes.
Battery problems
Dead Battery
The battery is where a lot of the tech lies within a disposable, and as such is where most of the problems occur. As they are mass produced, the batteries themselves are relatively small (normally around 550 mAh in capacity) and made cheaply as they are designed specifically for single use.
In rare instances, the battery is completely dead. This will mean as you try to take a hit of your disposable vape, there will be no vapour, no light, no hit whatsoever. This can be confirmed if the LED light (normally on the base of a disposable) isn’t flashing at all.
Can I charge my disposable vape?
The batteries in a disposable have been designed specifically for single use. So this is not the time to get your inner engineer out and take your elf bar apart. If it’s dead on arrival, simply contact the company you bought it from and they should be happy to replace it for you. The batteries within a disposable vape kit are alkaline batteries, and you should NOT attempt to charge these as it could cause a leak, or could potentially explode. An explosion in your lounge isn’t good for anyone, so please don’t do this.
Broken Battery connection
In order for the vape to work, the battery must be connected to the coil. The battery uses its power to help heat the coil, which is is surrounded by the cotton soaked in the nic salt e-liquid. If the battery is not connected properly, the LED light will flash but there will be no vapour production.
Empty Disposable: No E-liquid Inside
We know this sounds a bit crazy, but unfortunately it does happen. If you are not getting any flavour when you inhale, there is a good chance that it has no nic salt inside of it. This is nothing more than a production fault, just 1 small (yet crucial) step when making the kit has been missed.
Blocked Airflow
Nearly all of the disposable vape kits for sale in the UK will have an airflow hole/vent somewhere on the kit. Usually this on the base of the kit, and it could be blocked for a couple of reasons. Try these fixes:
Block the airflow hole with your finger and try taking a puff
Try lightly blowing into the device
Check if there is any debris in the airflow hole or mouthpiece
My Elf Bar / disposable tastes burnt, what shall i do?
Disposable vapes, like any normal refillable vape kit contain a coil and liquid. However they do not possess any kind of temperature control. Which means if your disposable tastes burnt, there is a lot you can do. Most disposables are pretty reliable, however in some cases certain disposables have a higher failure rate than others.
Here’s a few pointers if your disposable vape tastes burnt
Once opened, leave for a while to allow the e-liquid to soak into the coil
Take shorter puffs to start, and work towards your standard puff
Otherwise, it’s back to the shop to get another one. But how great is this, if you buy a dud disposable with us – we’ll send you out another one! Crazy right.
My Disposable isn’t working, what should I do?
Disposables aren’t designed to be pulled apart and investigated – if you’ve just opened your disposable and it’s not working, please take it back to where you bought it from and any reputable company would be happy to replace this for you. You will usually need the original receipt of purchase or the order confirmation email if you bought it online.
Leaking
It’s quite common for the odd disposable to be leaking, and theres a couple of reasons why this is:
Too strong of a puff / inhaling too hard – this will result in the e-liquid spitting up into the mouthpiece
Device has been left upside down for an extended period of time
Manufacturing flaw
My disposable wasn’t 600 puffs, what shall I do?
There is a common misconception that a disposable vape should last 600 10 second puffs, which is simply not the case. Disposables have been designed to help smokers quit smoking. The puff indicator on any disposable is based on the same puff as you would take a cigarette (in time, which is normally a 1-3 second pull). The main reason for disposables appearing to not go the full 600 puff distance is down to personal use. You’re probably just vaping slightly more than you thought you were.
