After so much success from the original OXVA Xlim and versions like the OXVA Xlim SE (our recommendation to almost every new and existing vaper), OXVA have launched a new design – the OXVA Xlim SQ. This small little box is very similar to its predecessors, with shape being one of the most differentiating factors in this line. How does it compare to these older versions though? We found out below.
OXVA Xlim SQ Key Features and Specifications
An absolute pocket rocket, the OXVA Xlim SQ follows its predecessors with one key difference, its shape. Clearly designed to be a refillable looking version of the Elf Bar Lost Mary BM600, the OXVA is a tiny device that surprisingly has a good battery a solid build all things considered. Powered by a 900mAh built-in battery, the SQ will give you all day vaping with ease. Type-C charging means it can also be recharged incredibly quickly. This battery will give you up to 25W output which is quite high for such a small device. Given this output, you can achieve both a mouth-to-lung (MTL) and a restricted direct-to-lung (RDTL) style with the adjustable airflow on the side of the device. The SQ is an auto draw device, meaning there are no buttons to activate it, you simply inhale and go just like a disposable.
The pod is the same as the OXVA Xlim SE version and the V2 pods which is handy if you’re switching between any of these devices. Of course as per TPD regulation, the pod is a 2ml e-liquid capacity and refillable on the side of the pod with a silicone stopper. All the good stuff spec wise can be found in an exhaustive list below.
Specifications:
Size: Height: 4.5cm, Width: 4.5cm (7cm with pod)
Mouth-to-lung / Restricted direct-to-lung
25W Max output
Adjustable airflow
Side fill
900mAh built-in battery
Type-C charging
Leak resistant
Compatible with OXVA SE / V2 Pods
Material: Aluminium alloy + PCTG
2ml E-liquid capacity
What’s in the box?
Inside the box is the OXVA Xlim SQ vape kit (with a 0.6Ohm pod installed), a type-c charger, a spare pod (0.8Ohm), user manual and a metal lanyard. Lot’s of vaping companies seem adamant on putting in these lanyards, I see them as rather pointless and not something I’ve ever seen somebody wear in the UK, but who knows – free stuff right.
OXVA Xlim SQ Design, Build Quality and Battery Life
Design
The Xlim SQ is a smart looking device that is available in 9 colour schemes. A small box shaped kit, it is very similar in stature and shape to an Elf Bar Lost Mary BM600, which is probably the thinking behind this device. If you like that shape, there’s no doubt this is a suitable option. The airflow is on the side of the kit, an LED battery indicator on the front and the USB port for charging is on the bottom. Outside of this, it’s a no frills device – that’s not to confuse no frills with no good (more on that to come).
Build Quality
Built from aluminium alloy, the SQ is a solid little device with good weight and a metal feel about it. Similarly to the OXVA Xlim SE, it doesn’t feel cheap to hold and might even survive a (small) drop on the floor for the slightly clumsy vapers amongst you. The pod is magnetic, with a solid magnetism and no fear that it’s going to pop off in your pocket. The airflow is nice and rigid, which means it’s unlikely to move up and down when you don’t want it to. Often these are a little cheap (particularly for kits around this lower price point) but OXVA have made it solid, using the same technology they did with the predecessors.Overall, a really solid build quality.
Battery Life
With a 900mAh built-in battery, you would expect the battery to be reasonably good in this kit. Well, you’d be right. You will get all day vaping from the OXVA Xlim SQ without the need to recharge. The caveat to this, is by all day vaping we mean if you treat it like a cigarette (and some) you won’t need to recharge within a day, and certainly not on a night out. If you chain vape all day, of course you’ll need to recharge. Overall, a really good battery and general battery life. The SQ will recharge from dead to full battery in around 30 minutes.
Flavour Test
Of course the most important thing for any vape kit is the flavour it can produce. If you’re reading this, you’ve probably tried or know about Elf Bars and other disposables, really what we want to see from vaping manufacturers is the ability of their products to recreate this flavour. So what sort of flavour does the OXVA Xlim SQ produce? Well we tried it with Bar Juice Nic Salt e-liquid (a replica of the Elf Bar flavours) and wow. We were not disappointed. Much like the OXVA Xlim SE, the flavour production is incredible and just about as close to a disposable as you can get. This isn’t a suprise to anybody who has used an OXVA device before, they are renowned for their fantastic flavour and long lasting coils.
How long do the OXVA Xlim SQ pods last?
We wanted to answer this question so we put it to the test. We found that the OXVA Xlim SQ pods last between 12 and 22 days. It’s important to note that this is incredible for a pod device where you are usually lucky to get 7 days from. Of course this doesn’t mean every pod will last this long, it really depends on how much you are vaping each day and what liquid you are using. We would recommend using a 50VG/50PG Nic Salt e-liquid for this device.
Who is the OXVA Xlim SQ made for?
The OXVA Xlim is clearly made for new vapers and those looking to switch from disposable kits to a refillable one. Therefore, we’d recommend this kit to complete beginners due to its simplicity to use and its ability to produce consistently excellent flavour.
Pro’s and Con’s
Pro’s
Excellent flavour
Long lasting pods
Good battery life
Portable
Fast charging
Cons
Charging port on the bottom of device
Summary…
The OXVA Xlim SQ is a fantastic little kit. I personally am not a fan of this smaller shape, but my opinion on that is largely irrelevant. If you are looking for a device that won’t light up unnecessarily and has 450 settings, this is your kit. It is no frills but its simplicity makes it exactly like a disposable with no setup or maintenance hassle required. It produces brilliant flavour and auto-draw means that it’s almost impossible to mess up using it. We are confident if you used this kit from disposables, you would be happy with it and it would genuinely help you quit smoking whilst being much cheaper than disposables. Therefore, we would recommend this kit and can’t sing its praises highly enough.
