Uwell have released a follow up to their very popular, but somewhat controversial Caliburn A2 in the form of this new device; the Uwell Caliburn A3 pod kit. The A2 was one of the best kits at producing that disposable like flavour thanks to the Uwell Caliburn mesh coils, but the kit wasn’t without fault – most notably being quite unreliable and prone to misfiring on it’s own. Well they have been back to the drawing board and released the A3, hopefully fixing these issues and most importantly with one new, very handy feature.
Uwell Caliburn A3 Kit Key Features and Specifications
The Uwell Caliburn A3 is the latest in the Caliburn A series, following on from the A2. Powered by a 520mAh battery, the A3 offers up to 13W output and is rapidly recharged in 15 minutes thanks to a type-c USB charging port. The Caliburn A3 has dual activation which means you can use auto draw to inhale, or press the button to fire the device. Uwell have introduced a locking feature to the A3, which means with 2 clicks you can lock the fire button to make the device auto-draw only.
Each kit comes with 2 Caliburn A3 pods that have coils pre-installed. Both pods are a 1.0Ohm resistance which makes them perfect for vaping with nic salt e-liquids. Each pod has a 2ml e-liquid capacity and a top fill refilling design that enables you to put the tip of the liquid into the top of the pod to refill quickly, cleanly and easily.

What’s in the box?
Inside the box is the Uwell Caliburn A3 vape kit (thank god), a spare pod (1.0Ohm) and a user manual with warranty card in a nice little pouch. Crucially (and disappointingly), there is no charger included with the Caliburn A3 so you’ll need to buy a type-c charger or have one lying around to charge the kit. This is quit common in vaping and we have no idea why, it’s so silly not to include a charger with a kit and a real con of this particular device.
Uwell Caliburn A3 Design, Build Quality and Battery Life
Design
The Uwell Caliburn A3 is a small and thin device, just 10.5cm tall and 2 cm wide. It is available in 6 classic colours with an aluminium alloy finish. On the front of the device is a convenient e-liquid window that allows you to easily check how much liquid you have left without taking out the pod. A fire button can be found on the front of the kit, which sits nice and flush to help prevent the device misfiring. The word “Caliburn” can also be found on the front of the kit, just above the LED indicator which displays remaining battery life with a colour system as you vape.
Instead of the typical side refill, the Caliburn A3 has a drip tip pod that snaps off at the top, allowing you to refill from the top down which also prevents leaking. Overall, the design is clean and pretty much what you’d expect from a small pod device with the exception of the drip tip and top fill which is a nice touch.
Build Quality
There isn’t much that can be said about the build quality of the Caliburn A3. I feel that due to it’s relatively small battery (compared to other kits in the category), it feels a little light and cheap. This is just personal preference and I’m sure if you’ve been using Elf Bars or similar disposables it will still feel like a step up. When compared to kits like the OXVA Xlim SE though, the A3 seems inferior in build quality because it lacks the weight of similar kits. Another issue would be the fact there is no adjustable airflow on the Caliburn A3 which means you are stuck with the mouth to lung vaping style this kit provides.
Battery Life
The A3 comes equipped with a built-in 520mAh battery which is actually not much bigger than most disposable kits. Despite this small battery size, we found that the A3 still gives you vaping for most of the day. Thanks to type-c charging though, the kit will rapidly recharge in 15 minutes, so as long you have access to a charger there’s no need to worry. It’s worth noting again, the Uwell Caliburn A3 does not come with a charger. A disappointing feature and certainly a con from us.
Flavour Test
It’s well known that for a small pod device, the most important thing is flavour. So what does the Uwell Caliburn A3 actually taste like? Well, if you use a good quality nic salt e-liquid like the Elf Bar Elfliq, or the Bar Juice 5000 the A3 produces some of the best flavour we’ve experienced. If you’re looking for a disposable like flavour, the A3 is absolutely the right kit. Uwell are fairly well known for their flavour producing mesh coils and this device is no different.
How long do the Uwell Caliburn A3 pods last?
You can reasonably expect 7 days or more from each pod. When testing we had one pod die after 8 days and one die after 15 days. The type of e-liquid you use will make the most difference and of course the amount you vape. We recommend using a good quality nic salt e-liquid and only vaping as if you were smoking to maximise the lifespan of the pod.
What type of person is the Uwell Caliburn A3 for?
We would recommend the A3 to a new vaper due to it’s low maintenance, easy setup and excellent flavour. The Caliburn A3 is also suitable for those looking to switch from disposables to a refillable kit for a more sustainable and cost effective option but keeping the same flavour.
Pro’s and Con’s
Pro’s
Fast recharge
Excellent flavour production
Top fill design
Leak resistant
Lost lasting pods
Con’s
Small battery
No adjustable airflow
No charger included
Summary…
Overall, the Uwell Caliburn A3 is an excellent choice for new vapers looking to replicate the disposable vape kit flavour. For those looking for a no thrills, hassle free kit that will be both reliable and taste great the A3 is perfect. The option for both auto draw and button firing makes it perfect for a wide range of new vapers. It’s a great shame the battery is so small and there is no charger included, but these are minor issues for the type of vaper this kit is suited to. All round, this is a fantastic vape kit.
