If you haven’t had your head in the sand for the last 24 months, you would’ve noticed a huge rise in popularity nationwide with vaping. More specifically, vaping disposables with the likes of Elf Bar,Lost Mary and SKE Crystal being at the top of that list. The easy to use nature of disposables, paired with mouth watering flavours has flipped the vaping industry on its head and taken the market by storm. Vaping disposables have been hugely popular in helping brits quit smoking, as it’s a hassle free answer to a once over complicated nicotine replacement therapy.
Because all of us here at vape.co.uk are absolute legends and just love helping people, we made a page where you can browse the products that are best suited for you trying to replicate that same disposable flavour in a refillable kit, you can have a peak here.
What’s so bad about disposable vapes?
On the face of it; disposables don’t seem that bad, right? They have full flavour all of the time, they’re light, easy to use and no need to charge! Not to even mention how they have helped countless people quit smoking.
They are the opposite of eco-friendly – single use plastic, a battery that is used once and the rest. No need to recycle these bad boys, straight to landfill. It’s important to note there are now Disposable vape recycling points.
The cost – if you tackle 1 elf bar a day you’re looking at £30 a week just on vaping, whereas using a refillable kit this would cover you for the month!
Where do I start?
When you move away from disposables, there is abundance of kits which vary in performance and suitability. Here’s a quick run down of type of vape kits:
Mod and Tanks – these kits products big clouds, and are high powered. Most commonly used with low nicotine strength E-liquid.
Starter Kits – small kits, usually pen shaped. Can either be used with freebase nicotine or Nic salts (same liquid found in disposable vape kits)
Pod Kits – usually small kits, with a refillable or pre filled pod. Normally low wattage/power and easy to use.
The ability to replicate the high levels of flavours you find it disposables, will depend on a couple of factors. But essentially you need to choose the following:
Our customer service team are often asked for recommendations for a refillable vape that hits like a disposable. Our go to recommendation is the Vaporesso XROS 3 Mini Pod Kit or the OXVA Xlim Pro Vape Kit(or any of the other kits in the list below) with a disposable-like nic salt. They will have the same cooling/menthol hit which will you will find in disposables.
What is the best alternative to Disposable vapes?
We have reviewed all of the following kits; and you can check these reviews here. Tried and tested methods only here at vape.co.uk.
Psssssttt… the Vaporesso Xros mini 3 and the Xlim Pro Bonus kit are at the top of this list for a reason.
Vaporesso Xros Mini 3 Kit
For reference, we are updating this as of the 24th October 2023. In terms of ease of use, The XROS mini 3 is by far the best on the above list. It has no buttons, it is auto draw and there is almost zero leaking from the pods. If you’re really want a no nonsense vape the XROS mini is a clear winner. The flavour is just like disposables and each pod will last you 7-14 days but can go on even longer (I’ve had a 0.6ohm pod in for 2 weeks now and its still going strong).
OXVA Xlim Pro Kit
For reference this has been updated as of September 2023 and the OXVA Xlim Pro is an upgraded version of the Xlim SE you will find in the number 2 spot. The Xlim pro boasts an easy side fill pod, upgraded mesh coils and adjustable wattage whilst being extremely easy to use. The OXVA Xlim Pro Vape Kit will provide you with as good flavour as you find in disposables. Big claims, we know.
OXVA Xlim SE 25W Bonus Kit
This was an easy choice. The OXVA Xlim SE is a new entrant to the market, but boy has it made its mark. The coils come fixed in the pods, so theres no need to fiddle around replacing coils. The coils also have an amazing lifespan. Pair this with a good quality nic salt and you will not be disappointed. At only £18.99 it really is a bargain. The Xlim V2 bonus kit comes with pods within the box, as well as a Type-C USB cable and a lanyard. Great value for money, super reliable and our go to recommendation for people looking to get disposable flavour within a refillable vape kit.
Uwell Caliburn A3
The Uwell Caliburn A3 Pod Kit is Uwells latest edition to their ergonomic vape kit portfolio. Uwell have obviously taken on board the criticisms of the previous A2. They have put a strong focus on flavours, as well as reliability. Like its predecessor, the A3 is cos effective, lightweight and great flavour. All paired with the fact it’s super easy to use. At only £17.99 it’s very good value, and also comes with 2 spare pods so you’re set for a month as long as you grab a couple of nic salts.
Elf Bar Mate 500
The Elf Bar Elf Mate 500 Pod Starter Kit (Device Only) is a pre-filled pod kit addition to the Elf Bar family. This kit is rechargeable, so there’s no need to chuck the battery away after each use. The Elf Bar P1 come pre filled with 2ml of e-liquid and rough lastly 500 puffs. The great thing about the Elf Bar mate is the same fantastic taste, at a cheaper price. Not to mentioned it’s better for the environment. This option isn’t as cheap as the above options, however if you aren’t quite yet ready to let go of disposables this is the choice for you.
Elfa Pro Kit and Pods
The Elf Bar Elfa Pro Vape Pod Kit is pretty similar to the Elf Bar Mate 500. The same concept of pre-filled pods which you simply just interchange when the pod is out of e-liquid. Another super simple option when swapping from disposables.
Aspire Flexus Q Pod Kit
Who’d have thought it, Aspire are back in the ring with their all new Aspire Flexus Q Pod Kit. Aspire are best known for the Aspire PockeX kit; which is still an extremely popular vape kit today. However the Flexus provides great flavour, catered specifically for high strength nic salts.
Aspire R1 Refillable Disposable
Okay, so the R1 might be a bit of cheat in terms of its not really a proper vape kit. But if getting a “real” refillable vape kit all seems a bit too confusing at the moment, go for the R1. It comes with a bottle of nic salt and will last up to 3500 puffs. Although you have to throw it out after this, it’s way better than 5 or 6 disposables. PS, its better for your wallet too!
Aspire Gotek X Pod Kit
Although this is yet again another Aspire kit, unfortunately we’re not sponsored by them. We have based all these reviews purely off merit so there’s no dosh being collected from us. The Aspire Gotek X Pod kit is an interesting addition to this list of disposable alternative kits; you can actually swap the standard 2ml Pod out for the larger capacity 4.5ml pod. With coils fixed into these pods it removes all hassle of fiddling around with coils.
Best Nic Salt ranges that taste like disposables
So, you’ve chosen the right kit for you. Now it’s time for you to choose a good quality, full of flavour nic salt.
20mg Nastyliq Nic Salts 10ml 50VG/50PG – Another new entry to this otherwise fairly static list – Nastyliq have stormed their way into this niche of disposable flavoured nic salts and they have found themselves in the top 3, a bloody good effort from them if you ask me. Some fantastic flavours.
20mg Elux Legend 10ml Nic Salts (50VG/50PG) – Elux have thrown their hat into the ring with their Elux Legend nic salts. Amazing flavours and very strong, just like their disposable range. Well done Elux, well done indeed.
20mg Riot E-liquid BAR EDTN 10ml Nic Salts (50VG/50PG) – a new entrant! Riot squad finally listened and stopped messing around with their hybrid salts and gave the people what they want, their best E-liquid to date. Very sweet and very strong in flavour.
20mg SKE Crystal Original 10ml Nic Salts (50VG/50PG) – if SKE Crystals are your go to disposable, then these are the ones to go for. Although the flavour isn’t quite as strong as the disposables, they’ll do the trick.
Is it actually possible to get as good flavour from a rechargeable kit as you get from a disposable vape kit?
This process is usually over complicated by a lot of people; and all it really boils down to is buying a small, low wattage kit with good coils. Then pairing this with a good quality Nic salt. So yes, it’s very possible to get the same depth of flavour in a rechargeable kit as of that in a disposable.
We are so confident in our choices above we have even created a page specifically for people looking for kits / liquids that will compare to a disposable, you can check this out here.
